Marche
The Marche is one of Italy’s great regions for eating and drinking. And the wines of Selvagrossa are a prime example of how wonderful the region’s wines can be, with the unique touch of passion and care from the Taddei family. These wines bring immense pleasure, and, like the best Italian wines, they are fabulous with a range of foods.
Selvagrossa, located in the Pesaro foothills facing the Adriatic coast, is a tiny estate, with only five hectares of vineyards. The climate here is characterized by cool summer nights, and the area has a base terroir with lots of clay. The brothers Alberto and Alessandro Taddei inherited the estate in 2002 from their grandparents, and the first Selvagrossa wine was made that same year, from an old-vine Sangiovese vineyard originally planted in the early 1970s by Alberto and Alessandro’s father and grandfather.
If there were a flagship wine from Selvagrossa, that wine would be “Trimpilin.” The wine is made predominantly of Sangiovese, from vines planted by Alberto and Alessandro's grandfather. More than 50 years in age, the vines are deeply rooted, yielding grapes of great concentration and complexity.
A perennial favorite, “Trimpilin” shows aromas of ripe cherry and raspberry, rose, dark chocolate, and anise. The palate echoes the nose, with notes of savory herbs and brown spices, and shows mouthwatering acidity and moderate tannins. A great pairing for your favorite pizza or an Italian sub with salumi and tangy provolone.
